Why We Choose Us

(If there is to be PR when fighting terrorism, let it be as simple and plain as this.)

Why We Choose Us

When rockets fall on Israeli towns, the press doesn't run over to describe the carnage in loving detail or splatter photographs of gore across the evening news. The International Red Cross makes no condemnations, the UN has nothing to say, and the usual suspects who cry out against war crimes when we defend ourselves-- are silent as stones.

That is why we choose us. Because no one else will. The lesson we have learned is that if we do not care for our children, no one else will. If we do not protect them, no one else will lift a hand to do it for us.

The grandfathers and fathers of the "People of Gaza" twice invaded us together with the armies of several Arab nations to wipe us off the face of the earth. They failed. Today their children are trying to help Iran finish the job they started. The world once again chooses them. The world wails over their suffering. The world demands that we let our children die, so that theirs may live to kill us. We refuse. We choose us.

It is the right of every nation to defend itself against enemies at home and abroad. That right of self-defense will not be abridged because the left has decided that Israel has less right to exist than an Iranian backed theocracy that just brought back crucifixion. When Al Queda attacked America, the left chose the Taliban. When Hamas bombed Israel, the left chose Hamas. So be it. We are under no obligation to bow our heads to the moral judgment of the ideological grandchildren of Marx, Lenin and Noam Chomsky. To hell with them and to hell with all their progeny. We choose us.

It is the right of every people to refuse to be slaughtered, to care about their own first, and to defend their own first. You may call this selfish, we call it survival. A nation exists because it chooses not to be conquered, instead choosing the deaths of the enemy over slavery and genocide. A family exists because a man chooses to protect his family from all those who would harm them. All morality must have a base. Yours is in class warfare, ours is in the family. We choose our family, we choose their lives over the intruders who would slaughter us in the name of greed and the maddened fanaticism that turned the once thriving Middle East, cradle of the world's civilizations, into dusty deserts, hovels and torture chambers. We choose us.

We did not force Hamas to barrage our towns and villages with rockets. We did not force them to begin this war, but we are nonetheless determined to end it in the way that all wars end, with the destruction of the aggressor.

We regret that Hamas has chosen to fight a war in the streets of their own cities. But that is their choice. And if their civilian population is devastated for it, it stems from their choice of terrain, not ours. If you begin a war in your own kitchen, you should expect to have it blown up. If you hide behind the bodies of your children, do not be surprised when you have to bury them. And do not expect us to mourn or stay our hand, because our enemy has demonstrated such ruthlessness that he is willing to use his own children to fight their battles. Such tactics did not save Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan or Saddam Hussein's Iraq. They will not save Hamas.

We will not let our children die, because the enemy uses his own as a shield in a war he has started. If it comes to that, we again choose us. The world may roar in protest, and we acknowledge that it is justified so long as when their cities and towns are shelled, that they will seek futile ceasefire after ceasefire, rather than fight back. And if indeed they do so, that form of suicide is their choice. Not ours. We choose to live. We choose to fight. We choose us.

We choose to live. We choose not to put our hopes in illusion or let a billion screeching voices dissuade us from doing our duty toward our own kith and kin. We chose to build a nation out of dust and rebuild generations lost in fields of ash and dirt. We built towns and cities out of swamps, we raised crops, we raised children, we built a future. And we will protect that future whatever else others may say. This is our land we will fight for it because it is our land, the land of our fathers and the land of our children. As our ancestors chose to lift the sword and the bow, rather than to bow before the Greek idol, we choose the rifle and the knife, rather than to bend our knees to the totems of liberalism. We will fight and we will prevail, because we choose to do it, unambigiously and unapologetically. We choose our future. We choose us.

I'd like to see this on the editorial pages of the NY Times! You go man, you go!

Thank you.

Thank you. Though I don't imagine the Times which rejected McCain's op ed is about to print anything like this.

There is a new program coming to television based on King Shaul and David and the wars that Israel fought. Loosely based but, the point is that in a poll asking whether the wars were justified, the gentiles didn't think so.
Despite the bible being something they supposedly value(which they really do not at all) they side with Goliath every time.
They side with the Assyrians and the Babylonians and the Egyptians and the Philistimes because those are their own.
Like sticks with like and so they pick their champions: Men like Goliath, men like evil Pharoah and Amalek, these are the heroes of the nations.

The world today is once again Goliath, the big fat hulking mess of a philistine and Israel is David.
The world sides with its own hero because they are just like him.

I have to also say that I only wish Olmert felt this way.
sadly not all Israel's enemies are on the outside.

Thank you for writing the truth. Thank you for writing a beautiful, elegant tribute to our faith. I wish you would submit this to every major news organization (print and broadcast) so the world would understand why Israel need make no apologies for defending its people and its land.

Wow! Brilliant piece as only the Sultan can put it.

Excellent and clearly written piece. You've so clearly laid out the reasons why Israel is fighting, much better than most. Bravo. The argument is clear and the justification for Israel to defend itself is also clear. Folks will try to argue your points but they can't do it. This is solid.

What a well written and thoughtful piece. Many of us Conservative Christians already understand this.

Lemon you do not speak for me. Not wanting to start a flame war I will stop at that.

Brilliantly written. The antisemitic media and propaganda experts of the Islamic fascists are trying to pull the strings. The only hope for Israel is to slaughter all those that are attacking them. The author is correct, survival means kill the enemy before they kill you.

I just randomly found this, and i've never been on this blog before, but having read this post, I say two words, "Fvck yeah"

From an American Christian who has seen what evil can and has done to others I choose you as well.

From this same American who looked at the events of 9/11 and knew what that you stood with us, and did not rejoice in the streets like the poor excuse for human beings you fight. I choose you.

This same American who would do whatever is necessary to protect his family including laying down his life, supports your right to defend yours.

I do not face either the threats or their magnitude as you do. If I do not help and support you who will be there when and if I am faced with similar in the future? Freedom, life, liberty, and security are not free or provided by a document no matter how well written. These are fought for and won sometimes at great price. I pray that the price paid is as low as possible. Also, I pray the what is gained honors those that have paid that price.

Great post again, I especially agree with this:

"The world may roar in protest, and we acknowledge that it is justified so long as when their cities and towns are shelled, that they will seek futile ceasefire after ceasefire, rather than fight back. And if indeed they do so, that form of suicide is their choice. Not ours. We choose to live. We choose to fight. We choose us."

And I choose to support Israel and have total contempt towards any Western government that chooses otherwise or to be impartial.

From a European who believes that never again means just that...

Ignore our media.

True Americans respect and admire your country when it stands up and fights.

Peace -- true peace -- is never attained through artificially imposed "peace negotiations".

If it comes time to make war, then war should be made -- and not ended until unconditional surrender of the enemy is attained.

Hamas has had repeated opportunities for peace, and rejected each. If they will not accept peace, they must learn submission.

Then you will know peace.

Brilliant...would love to see this in all tabloids. Showed up on Atlas.
Clear, concise and true. I stand with Israel knowing this is the battle for all-Jews and Christians alike.
Thanks!!

May God bless the nation of Israel and its people.

Defend your homes, my friends. Recall the immortal words uttered after the Holocaust, "NEVER AGAIN."

Never again. Never.

(One question...isn't a Sultan a MUSLIM king, not a Jewish one?)

As an outspoken American leftist, I have to object to your contention that the left has chosen Hamas over Israel, at least here in The States. I despise Hamas, and I believe that any organization, religous or otherwise, that threatens its own members with death if they choose to leave it is a violent organization. Islam comes to mind immediately. It is even more egregious to believe that after Al Qaida attacked the United States that the U.S. left sided with the Taliban. Let's be clear: The Taliban has NO visible or audible support among ANY political or philosophical group in America, save perhaps underground radicals of muslim descent, and here the condemnation of the attacks of 2001and the approval of the removal of the Taliban from power in Afghanistan have universally been approved by leftists.

I believe Israel will have to level Gaza in order to have any kind of peace. A surgical nuclear strike should get the Arab's attention. Nuke em till they glow, then shoot em in the dark. Kill em all. Let God sort them out.

G-d bless you for writing the truth. People slaughter each other in the third world and no news organization even covers it. Read "The War Nerd" columns by Gary Brecher for some info on this.

Half the world is fighting wars more destructive than Operation Cast Lead, but because Jews are involved the Communist Left howls for our destruction.

Tabatha Kaplan said...

Well said indeed.

The rank hypocrisy displayed by the worldwide media is astonishing. No other nation on earth would be expected to sit back while her citizens were being blown to bits by vile suicide bombers. Yet the second Israel lifts a finger in self defence, the world's journalists shriek 'unfair'!

Israel is engaged in her own War On Terror. It's as simple as that. And if the rest of the world has a problem with that then TOUGH.

We Jews learned the hard way that if wait and rely on the international community to do the 'right thing', then we lose far more than just the PR war.

I stand by Israel too.
I know the terrorists use human shields and put innocent civilians in harm's way. I don't think they're so innocent - I think they all hate Israel and that's why they elected Hamas. Israel gives up land for peace, only to have the land they give up become rocket stage. Israel uses precision bombs for known targets while Hamas and Hezbollah fire rockets indiscriminately into civilian populations. My question is, what do we say to the critics claiming the Israeli military used phosphorous bombs against civilians?
