Furthermore by restraining and even banning criticism of Islam, Western liberals themselves close off the path to Islamic reform. As it stands now, Islam is the only religion both in the West and in Muslim countries that hears nothing but praise about itself, without a word of criticism being tolerated. Many religions were begun not really to worship G-d but to control people.
I think this religion is one of them. It provides a way for dictatorial leaders to have great control over masses of people.

A little while ago the Muslim Student Association at my college was advertising a sort of "Muslim Awareness Week". One of the days was "Wear your Hijab to School" day. This was advertised to non-Muslim students to understand what it feels like to wear a hijab. Whatever.
So I was walking down a hall and I saw a giant poster of a woman wearing a hijab, and a nun wearing her habit. Underneath was written, "The Ultimate Hypocrisy". I'm not Catholic but that poster made me so incredibly angry. I thought the point was to show non-Muslims what Muslim women have to deal with for "displaying" their piousness.
It took everything for me to not make my own poster showing a woman in tight clothes, make-up, and high heels; then next to her show a woman in tight clothes, make-up, and high heels with a hijab on and underneath write, The Ultimate Hypocrisy. Where I go to school, 90% of the Muslim girls look like that. I've only seen one wearing a burkah and we have a HUGE Muslim Arab and Pakistani population.
Instead of getting expelled,(you know they would have put a fatwa on me for doing that too) I wrote to the Provost and the poster was taken down immediately.
My point in saying all this is to show that no matter how small, stand up for what is grossly wrong. Islam is making great gains in America because people are too lazy or scared to stand up and say no.

You should see the books ariving to the university libraries, praising Islam up and down, not ONE critical in the least. What do the students who know nothing about life and politics learn? That Islam is wonderful and it's our fault they hate us.

Excellent blog, love reading it but just want to make a couple of points regarding this entry if I may.

1. The failure to win the peace after WWI and singling out Germany as the "guilty party" was ONE of the factors contributing to Hitler's rise. The LoN's punitive reparitions crucified Germany unfairly and let off other guilty parties. It caused great resentment and combined with other contributory factors added fuel to the Nazi fire.

2. The death toll is far greater than "approaching 1 million in the 20th Century", the Armeniain hiolocaust committed by the Turks claimed around 1.5 million lives. That's before we look at India and Pakistan where I think around 80 million hindus have been slaughtered since Mohammed's jihadists arrived there in 638.

Beautifully written article packed with truths.

"By flattering Islam, we are discouraging the reform of Islam, and ultimately flattering ourselves to death."

If people remember nothing else they should remember that. Just as a person with colon cancer dies of embarassment because he is too ashamed to get a colonoscopy, the non-Muslim world can die from flattering Islam and treating it as some sort of sacred cow above reproach.
