In the 1965 New York Mayor's race, Democratic candidate Mario Procaccino told black voters, "I may be white but my heart is as black as yours."

With the return of the Democratic party to power, the Democrats seem bent on assuring Jews how much they like us even as their policies show the exact opposite. If diplomacy is the art of saying "nice doggie" while reaching for a stick, Democratic outreach to Jews is saying "nice doggie" while beating us over the head with the stick and expect us to be so flattered by the praise that we don't even notice it. And most of the time it seems that indeed we don't.

Unlike other minority groups, Blacks, Hispanics, Women, Gays; Democrats can't actually point to anything their policies have to offer for Jews. All they manage to do is reassure us of their bipartisan support for Israel, then their support for the peace process (a little like telling a woman on the run from her abusive husband that you support the pair going to a marriage counselor) and 'traditional' Jewish values such as the entire Democratic party platform.

What the rise of the Democrats actually means for Jews is more taxes, the death of any hope of school choice for Jewish children, more pressure on the State of Israel to make deals with the terrorists, no support for fighting terrorism and the rise to power of the left that increasingly blames Jews and Israel for everything wrong in the world; as much as any Nazi does. Nice doggie. Here's the stick.

What does "Nice Doggie" sound like? The JTA which is so beholden to the Democrats you almost have to imagine there were blood oaths involved, is busy running stories on how much the Democrats like us. Their latest topic seems to be the intermarried Jewish spouses or relatives of Democratic leaders. Harry Reid it seems has a Jewish wife who converted with him to Mormonism (the article doesn't state whether he's shopping around for more wives to add to his menagerie) and Nancy Pelosi has a Jewish son-in-law.

What the point of telling us this is, I have absolutely no idea. Willingness to intermarry with Jews hasn't been seriously considered as proof of goodwill since the first half of the 20th century. Marrying Jewish women who convert to Christianity is not unusual for that matter even among some rabid anti-Semites. Democrats beginning with Michael Dukakis and Howard Dean have made a point of showing off their trophy Jewish wives hoping to score political points with it and got all the way up to zero. Even in today's liberal times most Jewish parents will have a reflexive dislike of intermarriage. Top Democrats showing off their Jewish wives is at least as repulsive as Senator Allen's weaseling over his Jewish roots. The former is condescension bordering on contempt, the latter is self-hatred verging on bigotry. The sum total is to show off how uncomfortable both sides are with Jews.

Liberal Democrats who would know better than to play "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with a black audience and expect applause, smugly try out the same routine on Jewish audiences knowing that they have nothing to offer Jews and that the average Jewish liberal has all the self-respect of a drunken bum in the gutter begging for change, when it comes to the Democratic party.

I have never voted for a political candidate because of his race, religion or ethnicity but because I believe he's the best man for the job. People who vote out of ethnic solidarity are idiots just begging to be rooked. To vote for a candidate out of ethnic solidarity means giving him a pass on actual policy or delivering on his campaign promises. A candidate who thinks you can be bought with a visit to Katz's Deli and a Yiddish line transcribed phonetically out of his campaign book is one who feels he doesn't have to deliver any tangible programs to you because he can win you over with a little minstrel show in Jewface.

If I won't vote for a candidate because he's Jewish, what are the odds I'd support one because he has a Jewish wife. Or because she supposedly attended Passover seders in the Bay Area (what the hell does this have to do with her qualifications for public office anyway) never mind that Hatikvah story which alone sends me into fits of convulsive vomiting. Maybe it's time the Democrats stopped their usual bouts of condescension and actually began treating their voters like adults. Stop making up idiotic stories about your dying family priest telling you to protect Israel (Bill Clinton) or rediscovering your Jewish heritage at Masada (Kerry) and just tell us how you actually plan to fight terrorism and whether you have any intention of easing the tax burden on parents who send their children to religious schools. Is that really too much to ask.

I don't want to hear that your heart is as Jewish as mine. You're a politician, I don't even believe you have a heart anyway. I don't want to hear about your Jewish friends, spouses, dogs or whatever random Hebrew phrase your campaign volunteer who was Bat Mitzva'd at Temple Beth Reform has taught you (after having to check with her grandmother who had to check with her son who went to Jerusalem to become religious and is the only one in the family who knows any Hebrew besides, 'Hora' and 'Shalom.') If there is a Hebrew or Yiddish word you must use try this one, Tachlis. I'll even demonstrate its meaning by usage. 'What is the actual Tachlis of your program?'

Please leave your intermarried wives at home. We really don't want to see them or suffer through their painful attempts to pretend they're members of a people and a religion they turned their backs on long ago. Nor do want to endure your tender recollections of that Jewish neighbor you lived next door to as a little boy. Mohammed and Hitler had Jewish neighbors too. It didn't make them nicer people. The simple reality is this.

For a decade you've gone on about how we should be more like France, a country which Jews are fleeing much the same way they fled Germany after Kristalnacht and for much the same reasons.

You've gone on about how we need to make the Arab Street love us. Do you know what the Arab Street loves? Killing Jews.

You've gone on about taxing productive citizens to fund unproductive ones. We are the productive citizens. Unlike a lot of your Democratic demographic we actually work for a living and do quite well at it. That's probably why you can't think of anything useful to say to us.

You've gone on about the evils of militarism arguing that the way to stop terrorism isn't through armed force but through negotiation. The cemeteries of Israel in this generation are filled by the victims of peace through negotiations. The only way to stop the modern day Hitlers of the Middle East polishing their missiles and dreaming gleefully of genocide is through armed force.

If we want to see modern day Antisemitism, we're as likely to find it among your grassroots at Democratic Underground, Indymedia or Daily Kos as at Stormfront. You've spent weeks boasting about electing a man who was associated with the Nation of Islam and penned hateful anti-semitic rants for them.

You can see quite well why we're suspicious of you and why you have nothing to offer us except nostalgia and rhetoric about traditional Jewish values, as if we needed to fund the escalating government bureaucracies to help the poor, something we were doing before the Democratic party was a gleam in Tammany Hall's eye.

We have nothing to gain by supporting you and everything to lose. No wonder you keep repeating "Nice Jewish Doggies" over and over again as the stick comes down.
